community education, mission visibility & donor engagement
Although many people recognize the client as an animal shelter, fewer understand the breadth of programs, partnerships, and services that support animals and the people who care for them. The organization identified an opportunity to invite supporters behind the scenes to better understand the expertise, coordination, and community investment required to create positive outcomes for animals, families, and wildlife.
The objective was to transform public awareness into deeper understanding while creating opportunities for education, stewardship, community engagement, and philanthropic support.
Designed and implemented an immersive behind-the-scenes open house experience that guided visitors through the many ways the client serves the community.
Guests explored shelter operations, wildlife rehabilitation, rescue and transport programs, foster and volunteer initiatives, behavioral support, medical care, and adoption services while hearing firsthand stories from staff, volunteers, foster families, and supporters.
The experience was intentionally structured to demonstrate how animals, families, donors, volunteers, community partners, and wildlife are connected through a shared network of care and support.
To expand donor stewardship opportunities, a VIP cocktail reception was incorporated into the event, providing supporters with early access to organizational leadership, program staff, and behind-the-scenes mission insights. The smaller setting encouraged conversation, relationship-building, and more in-depth discussion surrounding organizational priorities and community impact.
By combining education, storytelling, and firsthand access, the open house created a transparent and engaging experience that helped visitors understand both the complexity and community impact of the organization’s work.
Several hundred community members attended the Shelter Open House, generating local media coverage and increasing awareness of the organization’s programs and services.
The event generated fundraising support while providing visitors with a deeper understanding of the role Anderson Humane plays in supporting animals, families, wildlife, and the broader community.
Guests experienced firsthand how rescue operations, medical care, behavioral support, foster programs, volunteer engagement, wildlife rehabilitation, and donor support work together to create positive outcomes.
The open-house format proved highly effective in transforming public curiosity into deeper mission understanding while strengthening community connection, donor engagement, and long-term support for the organization’s work.
