Response/Solution

Exclusive 3-hour, guided tours featuring one of the world’s finest collections of restored, automated musical instruments and other turn-of-the-century antiques were sold for 6 different time slots.

This rare glimpse into Sanfilippo’s collection included behind-the-scenes access to:

  • Automated Music Machines including early Edison and Victrola Phonographs, Barrel Organs, Disk Players, Roll Orchestrions, Violin Machines such as the 1922 Hufeld Phonoliszt-Violina which plays the piano and three violins, American Nicklodeons, Reproducing Pianos including a Steinway Duo-Art (a George Gershwin favorite) and more.
  • Victorian Bar Room, a recreation of a turn-of-the-century casino featuring a 24-foot-long back bar, rare slot machines, Coin Pianos, and Orchestrions by Mills, Coinola, Seeburg, Link and Wurlitzer. Then peek into the lower level of the theater to see the organ blower and lift.
  • Paris Passageway, a sneak peek into Jeffrey Sanfilippo’s Collection of antique fragrance and cologne bottles.
  • World’s Largest Theater Pipe Organ an 80 rank, 8000 pipe, 1927 Wurlitzer.
  • Carousel Pavilion including Dance Organs, Band Organs, Calliopes, and Fairground Organs; an 1881 Grant Railroad Locomotive (used by Henry Ford) with its tender and caboose; a reproduction Pullman Coach Car; spectacular street clocks; and a variety of Stationary Steam Engines.
  • Eden Palais Carousel – Built in 1890, fully restored and operational. Lit by hundreds of light bulbs, it was undoubtedly one of the first places that patrons experienced electric lighting.
Outcome/Results
We hosted 3 days of morning and afternoon tours. All 6 time slots sold out in under 24 hours.
The tours provided a reliable, efficient way to raise funds and required little in the way of staff resources.
Donor exposure to the unique venue created intrigue, setting the stage for a French-inspired carnival themed fundraiser which is scheduled for November, 2025.
