A venue in a naturalized setting was chosen to host a whimsical Groundhog Day Celebration. Complete with breakfast, mimosas and a Bloody Mary bar, guests were treated to an up-close look at the groundhog and the important role it plays in our ecosystem. For 2.5 hours, the wildlife team regaled over 100 guests with stories and videos of their wildlife patients and fielded questions for an interactive Q&A. Throughout the program other ambassador animals appeared pretending to be the groundhog. The festivities culminated in the appearance of Wanda, the groundhog, who predicted an early spring after being hoisted from her tree trunk outside.

After the shadow reveal guests retreated to the wildlife encounter room to meet the ambassador animals and gain insight into wildlife rescue and rehab. Anchoring the space was an over-the-top photo booth of a 4’ groundhog on a 2’ tree stump. Enjoyed by all, the photo op made for sharable social media further capitalizing on the event.

Outcome/Results
CBS ran exclusive coverage which aired Friday, Saturday and the Sunday of Groundhog Day. A live feed captured the shadow reveal. CBS further leveraged this coverage to launch follow-up stories on the wildlife program.
