Knowing it was important to highlight and educate the public on the new focus of wildlife, the Walk4Animals was relocated to a pastural venue rich in forest canopy and prairie.
Guests were routed through a 1.5 mile walk with 4 interactive stops designed to educate on the importance of conservation and wildlife rehab.
“The Sky” highlighted bird and raptor rescue and featured onsite birds of prey.
“The Forest” focused on mammals that made their home in and amongst the trees.
“The Prairie” educated visitors on wildlife that nested in grasses as well as the massive prairie restoration that returned the prairie to what it was 2 centuries ago.
“The Ground” featured onsite reptiles.
Refreshments, awards, and organizational updates took place in a beautifully restored barn. Hayrides entertained young and old alike.
At the height of Covid, Anderson Humane acquired Fox Valley Wildlife.
Well known for their work with domestic animals, this move confused traditional supporters.
Coupled with a recent leadership change, potential fundraisers/guests were reticent to donate/fundraise for the organization.
The Walk yielded $24,000 in crowdfunding and attracted 120 participants.
True return on investment, however, was the insight it provided supporters. There was an immediate shift in how the Wildlife program was perceived as evidenced by new donor financial support.
The “return to basics” approach of the Walk fostered an understanding that Wildlife was germane to the mission and a natural extension of the brand.
Further, it set the stage for generous giving for the ensuing month of November and Giving Tuesday.
