strengthening stewardship, trust & long-term donor engagement

geneva, il

Response/Solution

Developed and executed a gala strategy centered on mission impact and donor education.

A carefully selected mid-tier venue reinforced the organization’s commitment to responsible stewardship while providing an elevated guest experience consistent with donor expectations.

Throughout the evening, a series of transition videos highlighted the journey of animals through the organization—from rescue and intake to medical care, enrichment, foster placement, adoption, and wildlife release. These stories provided attendees with a behind-the-scenes look at how donor support is translated into daily mission impact.

Wildlife rehabilitation, often less visible than companion animal programs, was incorporated into the experience through educational ambassador animal interactions, including the appearance of a Virginia opossum.

Nationally recognized animal behavior expert and author Dr. Temple Grandin served as keynote speaker, helping attract new attendees while reinforcing the event’s educational focus and commitment to animal welfare.

The gala ultimately sold out, combining mission storytelling, donor stewardship, and community support into a powerful fundraising experience.

Outcome/Results

The 2024 gala became the organization’s most successful fundraising event to date, generating record-breaking attendance, profitability, donor participation, and sponsor support.

The event attracted a significant number of first-time attendees while reinforcing confidence among existing donors and supporters.

Relationships developed through the gala also helped secure CNN Hero of the Year and Project Street Vet founder Dr. Kwane Stewart as the organization’s 2025 keynote speaker.

Most importantly, the event demonstrated that supporters were no longer investing simply because they believed in the organization—they could clearly see the impact their generosity was making.

Opportunity/Challenge
Following two years of organizational transition and trust rebuilding, the 2024 gala presented an opportunity to build on renewed donor confidence and demonstrate the impact of philanthropic support.
The objective was to reinforce the organization’s reputation for thoughtful stewardship while helping supporters better understand how their contributions directly support animal welfare, wildlife rehabilitation, and community programs.
