Opportunity/Challenge

This event was conceived as a way to build another fundraising aspect into the Walk4Animals and as a potential source for Chicago Marathon runners for its Charity team.

Chicago Marathon Charity Partners are challenged to fill their first installment of allocated bibs before the November lottery.

If successful, they are granted the same number of bibs post-lottery, so it’s propitious for organizations to have a list of distance runners ready to commit to fundraising.

Response/Solution

The 5K was introduced as a separate element to bring further value to the Walk4Animals event and have supporters associate the organization with running events in general.

By combining the 5K with the Walk, runners were able to participate in joint crowdfunding with their family or friends.

Because the Chicago Marathon registration occurred one month later, the Chicago Marathon team was also heavily cross marketed.

Outcome/Results

Over 100 runners participated and raised over $3500.

The bigger win, getting word out about the Chicago Marathon team, helped secure a number of runners who applied to be part of the organization’s Chicago Marathon team.
