the healing power of animals

carpentersville, il
Response/Solution

To appear financially mindful, invitations were redesigned, and the overall aesthetic migrated to a black and white theme. The artwork adorning gala materials was sourced from a 14-year-old artist who donated her sophisticated drawings, lending an air of wholesomeness and trustworthiness.

Oversized animal silhouettes were produced to punctuate the need to fundraise jointly for both the wild and domestic animal programs.

There was a deliberate attempt to remove unnecessary luxuries.

Program content was overhauled to be more mission-centric and the inclusion of a guest speaker, Dr. Marty Becker, brought credibility and validation to the organization’s mission.

Known throughout the country as “America’s Veterinarian” and the Founder of Fear Free, 2023 Guest Speaker Dr. Marty Becker was a resident contributor on “Good Morning America” for 17 years and a past member of the Board of Directors of American Humane. The co-author of bestsellers Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul and Chicken Soup for the Cat and Dog Lover’s Soul, Dr. Becker has written 23 books that have sold almost 8 million copies, including three New York Times best-sellers.

Outcome/Results

The event achieved a bridge between donors loyal to previous leadership and those ready for change.

Dr. Marty Becker’s endorsement bolstered confidence in the organization and drew a number of first-time attendees new to Anderson Humane. The new infusion of donors provided a springboard for future conversations and connections.

Challenge/Opportunity
In the months between the 2022 gala and the ensuing 2023 event, the client underwent extensive leadership changes rendering the public confused as to the solvency and overall future of the organization.
Realizing events grew from momentum, the organization was reticent to cancel their gala.
Rather, the decision was made to move forward, but with intention. The challenge was to restore faith in the organization’s financial stewardship in order to foster giving.
